Children’s Valentine Books – Shortlist

Happy Valentine’s Day! Let’s celebrate love all month long with some adorable themed books. This post was updated to include two new Valentine books for 2023!

 

The Night Before Valentine’s Day

Natasha Wing’s books in “The Night Before” series are adorable! This book can be used for describing, rhyming, sequencing, and themed vocabulary.

 

The Day It Rained Hearts

A fan favorite! This book can be used for sequencing, describing and inferencing, such as determining who is getting a Valentine. For example, the little girl makes a heart with a cotton ball on it… I wonder what animal is going to receive that Valentine!

 

There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rose

These books are so fun! There is a themed book in the “There was an Old Lady” series for just about every holiday! This book includes themed vocabulary and can be used for story retell, memory recall, inferencing and predicting.

 

Amelia Bedelia’s First Valentine

This book is filled with figurative language! Perfect for a child who loves Amelia Bedelia!

 

Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse

A precious book filled with Valentine Vocabulary!

 

Little Blue Truck’s Valentine

Perfect for the Little Blue Truck lover in your life! A cute, vocabulary-filled story about Little Blue Truck delivering Valentines!

 

Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch

This is an incredibly sweet book! The lonely main character, Mr. Hatch, changes his outlook on life based on an act of kindness from his community. This book discusses perspective taking, emotions, and encourages kindness and inclusion.

 

Froggy’s First Kiss

Kids adore Froggy! This book is great for perspective-taking, emotions, answering mixed wh-questions, and sequencing.

 

I Love You, Little Pookie

Sandra Boynton books are incredible! This book is filled with vocabulary and teaches all about a parent’s or caregiver’s love!

 

Llama Llama I love You

A simple book filled with themed vocabulary, sequencing, rhyming, and wh- and yes/no questions!

 

TURKEY’S valentine surprise

Calling all fans of the Turkey series! A great book to work on inferencing and understanding jokes. Silly Turkey!

 

Where is Baby’s Valentine?

A lovely book filled with vocabulary, prepositions, and simple wh- and yes/no questions. The page flaps make it fun and interactive!

This book follows a little girl and her duck as they grow and care for each other. Great for descriptive language and story retell and teaches all about unconditional love!

A new seasonal twist to a fabulous series! Perfect for any dinosaur lover.

 

Lola Dutch, I Love You So Much

A great book for Lola Dutch lovers! “Lola Dutch, I Love You So Much” is filled with delightful imagery on showing love and bringing joy to others! Great for descriptive language and emotions.

 

Hedgehugs

This is such an adorable book! Great for story recall, sequencing, descriptive language, and compare/contrast.
